Xylophone, marimba, vibraphone, glockenspiel, tubular bells, bass marimba, 4 tuned gongs (B a 9th below middle C, C sharp below middle C, D below middle C, E above middle C), crotales, 7-12 roto-toms, tam-tam, orchestral bass drum, tambourine, 5 temple blocks, 4 woodblocks (Japanese preferred), 4 suspended cymbals ( ride, 14" Turkish, Chinese, sizzle with good sustain on rivets), cabaça, chocolo, 2 triangles, 2 maracas, 2 flexatones.

Vibraphone, tubular bells, glockenspiel, 2 marimbas, bass marimba, 4 timpani, 2 sizzle cymbals, ride cymbal, Chinese cymbal, tam-tam, orchestral bass drum, chocolo, maracas, cabaça, steel drums ( from C below middle C, to D above middle C), 4 tuned gongs ( B a 9th below middle C, C below middle C, E below middle C, E flat above middle C).

Tubular bells, vibraphone (+ bow), marimba, glockenspiel, orchestral bass drum, 2 suspended cymbals ( one being sizzle, with good rivets), chocolo (+ optional maracas), tambourine ( without skin, mounted on hi-hat pedal).

Tubular bells, 2 marimbas, vibraphone, glockenspiel, 3 timpani, 2 tam-tams, orchestral bass drum, 4 tuned gongs (E flat below middle C, G below middle C, Middle C, F above middle C), steel drums ( D below middle C to A flat above middle C), steel drums ( middle C to E flat, a 10th above middle C), crotales, mark-tree, 3 suspended cymbals (1 being ride, 1 being sizzle), 2 triangles, 4 woodblocks, 2 whips, maracas, chocolo, wind-machine, cabaça.

(4 players. n.b. all players need bows).

 

Four Elements (1990)

Tubular bells, vibraphone, marimba, orchestral bass drum, tam-tam, water-gong, large suspended cymbal, sizzle cymbal ( with good rivets), Japanese temple bell ("dabachi"), mark-tree, castanets, antique cymbals ( or cymbal tongs).
